A woman in Phu Tho province died of bird flu

On 25 February, the Ministry of Health has confirmed a new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. The case is a 23 year old woman, living in Cam Khe, Phu Tho. Dr Nguyen Huy Nga, Director of the Viet Nam Administration of Preventive Medicine, Ministry of Health said that the case is a teacher, developed symptoms on 14 February, locally hospitalized on 19 February and referred to the National Institute of Infectious and Tropical Diseases on 21 February. The case had been getting severe development and died at 2 a.m on 25 February. Epidemiology surveillance results show that there were died and sick poultry around the patient's house and the patient's family had fed poultry but no sign of direct contact with sick poultry found.
