Death of a new H5N1 avian influenza infection case

A new case of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza has been confirmed in Hai Duong province. The case died at noon of 13 February, after four day treatment in the National Institute of Infectious and Tropical Diseases (NIITD). Dr Nguyen Hong Ha, Vice Director of the NIITD said that the patient had been hospitalized in a critical condition of lung damaged, kidney failure and had developed symptoms for six days. The case died after having shock and viscera failure. Epidemiological investigations found that there are several died chicken around the patient's house. The patient had cooked two died chicken and shared with some family members to eat, including two children.
