Description:

A Policy Framework for Viet Nam's Socioeconomic Development, 2011-2020

This paper was prepared at the request of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung by Harvard's Kennedy School of Government with support from UNDP Viet Nam. The Prime Minister requested a critical analysis of Viet Nam's draft socio-economic development strategy for the period 2011-2020 as part of a wider programme of policy dialogue consultations. The paper responds to this request, identifying key challenges facing Viet Nam over this period as the country strives to achieve middle income status. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UNDP are working together to continue the policy research and dialogue programme initiated by 'Choosing Success" under the Capacity Development for Economic Diplomacy and Business-Government Dialogue project.

'Choosing Success' was partially supported by the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom under the Strategic Partnership Initiative between DFID and UNDP.
