Ha Noi, 5 December 2009 – In recognition of the noble efforts of volunteers worldwide, International Volunteer Day (IVD) is celebrated every December 5.
This year, the global theme for IVD 2009 is “Volunteering for our Planet”, recognizing that climate change impacts us all and that tackling the problem requires the ingenuity and the participation of all people. In Ha Noi, a day-long Environmental Youth Camp will be staged on 5 December at the Ha Noi Botanical Gardens by volunteer organizations.

International Volunteer Day - 5 December
The International Volunteer Day (IVD) is a day for recognizing and honoring the efforts of volunteers worldwide.
It is also an opportunity for volunteer organizations and individual volunteers to showcase their contribution to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and other national volunteering efforts.
This year, the global theme for IVD is “Volunteering for our Planet”, recognizing that climate change impacts us all and that tackling the problem requires the ingenuity and the participation of all people.
“Volunteering for our Planet”
An IVD celebration that responds to the call for conscious effort to promote a green environment with the participation of diversified group of volunteers from various volunteer involving organizations, students from universities and children from different sectors and including others who are interested in volunteerism.
Time: 13.00 – 16.30, Saturday 5 December 2009
Venue: Ha Noi Botanical Garden, 3 Hoang Hoa Tham street, Ha Noi
Activities: Thematic activities that cover topics like wildlife protection, the ocean, green transport and waste: 3Rs, global climate change, urban pollution; there will also be live music performances, fun games, volunteer information booths and displays.
