Hanoi, 15 May 2012 - Vietnam is going to host the biggest incoming delegation of Italian entrepreneurs since the first institutional mission held in November 2008. Representatives of around 50 enterprises, in particular SMEs, will come for the first time to Vietnam to understand the investment and market opportunities offered by the Country and to meet Vietnamese enterprises for discussing business agreements and JV projects.

The workshop “Enterprise Partnerships for Development” which will be opened by the Ambassador of Italy HE. Lorenzo Angeloni, the UNIDO country representative Mr. Patrick Gillabert, and the Vice Minister of Planning and Investment Dang Huy Dong, aims at providing a great chance to Italian entrepreneurs for understanding the potential of Vietnam as a market and investment destination, and to start exploring concrete opportunities of business partnerships through direct and tailored meetings with selected Vietnamese industries and institutions, in the sectors of textile and clothing, footwear and leather products, and furniture.

During the sessions of 24 May, representatives of institutions, scholars and entrepreneurs of both countries will provide an overview of Vietnamese economy and business opportunities for foreign investors who wish to expand their business in one of the most promising emerging markets in the South Asia.

Focused bilateral meetings and factory visits will then be organized on 25 and 26 May within the Forum, according to profile and interests of visiting companies, and thanks to the in-depth knowledge of the specific manufacturing sectors acquired by UNIDO also through the implementation of the project.

The workshop is organized in the framework of the cooperation project “SME Cluster Development”, entirely funded by the Government of Italy and implemented in Vietnam by UNIDO, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, with the Vietnamese Ministry of Planning and Investment as national counterpart.

The project aims at supporting the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam together with the internationalization of Italian SMEs, through the promotion of trade, production and technical cooperation agreements between enterprises from both countries.

A specific focus is given to disseminating in Vietnam experiences and best practices of Italian “industrial districts”, and to promoting institutional agreements among Italian and Vietnamese industry associations, educational institutions, technical and service centers, aiming to build a support network which would facilitate industrial partnerships as well as the overall upgrade of Vietnamese industry.

Technical assistance has been provided, through consultancy of experienced international professionals, to around 80 Vietnamese companies in the selected sectors of textile and clothing, footwear and leather products and furniture, involving and building capacity of local consultants and institutions. The in-depth knowledge of companies and sector institutions acquired through this process is now available to support and guide the selection of potential partnerships among enterprises of both Countries.
