Ha Noi, 3 November 2011– The new United Nations Resident Coordinator in Viet Nam, Ms. Pratibha Mehta, today presented her credentials to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung.
Ms Pratibha Mehta comes to Viet Nam from Yemen, where she held the position of United Nations Resident Coordinator from 2008 to 2011. Prior to that, she served as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Mongolia.
From 1997 to 2004, Ms Mehta worked in various roles for UNDP, including as a policy advisor for governance and in the UNDP Bureau for Development Policy in New York.
Prior to joining the United Nations, Ms Mehta worked as Director of the Local Agenda 21 in the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives in Canada. From 1980 to 1994, she worked in India in the National Institute of Urban Affairs and in the Delhi Council for Child Welfare.
Ms Pratibha Mehta holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Gujarat, India, and a M.Sc. in Child Development from M.S. University, Baroda, India.
