On Saturday 21 May 2011, UNESCO Ha Noi will present an all-day culture and art event at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum in celebration of International Museum Day (May 18) and World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development (May 21). The event will inaugurate the museum’s new “Creative Space for Children”, a room offering interactive activities such as painting and clay sculpture.
Around the world, World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development provides everyone with an opportunity to deepen understanding of the values of cultural diversity and to learn to "live together" better. The UN Secretary-General, in his global message for the day, highlights the "importance of the values of peace and solidarity. The Day is meant as a signal to those who seek to sow divisions among human beings that such attempts will always be resisted by those who believe in the far greater forces of tolerance and mutual understanding."
In Ha Noi, the event at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum will feature a guided tour of images of early 20th century Vietnamese women, an art exhibition for children, “Manga Realities – Exploring the Art of Japanese Comics Today” , and a collection of Dong Ho-style paintings depicting the Japanese character Ultraman.
The evening will showcase traditional music and dance performances from several countries. The activities will begin at 8.30 am, Saturday 21 May 2011, at the Viet Nam Fine Arts Museum Museum, 66 Nguyễn Thái Học street, Ba Đình district, Hà Nội.
