Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, UN independent expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty
The United Nations independent expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty, Magdalena Sepúlveda Carmona, has completed her report to the UN Human Rights Council following a mission to Viet Nam last year. During her visit of 23-31 August 2010, Ms. Sepúlveda collected first-hand information on the human rights situation of people living in extreme poverty, and on social policies, particularly those related to social protection. Her report provides concrete recommendations on how to implement a human rights-based approach to social protection and poverty reduction in Viet Nam, with a focus on the enjoyment of human rights, in particular economic, social and cultural rights, of people living in extreme poverty in the country.
